What is INCI?

International Nomenclature of Cosmetic Ingredients: an explanation.

International Nomenclature of Cosmetic Ingredients

International Nomenclature of Cosmetic Ingredients, international name used to show on labels the different ingredients in a cosmetic product.

It is compulsory to show the INCI on the packaging and the ingredients are shown in decreasing order of the quantity in which they are present.

The INCI names are in English or Latin and it is difficult to find them translated into Italian. We have decided to do so!

To help you read our labels easily, on our cosmetics you will find the translation into italian of the ingredients Seticrei chooses to use.

Timbro Prodotti Cosmetici Naturali

Our skin

Before telling you what Seticrei does not choose and what instead it absolutely chooses for its creams, let us explain how our skin is structured, so that you can understand how important it is to be aware of the products we nourish and defend it with.

The skin is a real organ of our body, made up of three layers:

I 3 strati della pelle:

  • EPIDERMIS: this is a tissue 0.2 mm thick and acts as a barrier.
  • DERMIS: this is connective tissue which is 3.4 mm thick immediately under the epidermis, and which has the sebaceous glands.
  • HYPODERMIS: this is the deepest layer, made up of cells necessary for the biosynthesis of fats.

Skin types:

  • COMBINATION SKIN: skin showing dry spots as well as greasy areas.
  • OILY SKINS: impure skins that have a greater production of sebum with the presence of blackheads, open pores and pimples.
  • SENSITIVE SKINS: skins which turn red due to temperature differences, which suffer from couperose and can even have problems of eczema and psoriasis.
  • DRY SKINS: skins that require a greater supply of hydration than other skins, which show signs of wrinkles and loss of tone.

Everything that we put on the epidermis does not stay on the surface, but is absorbed by the deeper layers, entering into circulation in our body. At every age it is therefore correct and fundamental to use products that are beneficial and not harmful for our body.

Our advice:
Prevention is always better than cure.

Seticrei: what we choose not to include

Seticrei NON utilizza nei propri prodotti:

  • SILICONES: inorganic polymers derived from the combination of silica and petroleum substances, generally their names ends with –thicone, -one, -ane;
  • PETROLATES: a class of compounds obtained from petroleum by distillation, in the INCI they are identified with Mineral Oil, Paraffinum Liquidum, Petrolatum, Propylene glycol, Isopropyl, Vaselina Microcrystalline wax.
  • PARABENS: obtained through a process of esterification of the para-hydroxybenzoic acid with a specific alcohol. Recognizable from items such as methylparaben, ethylparaben, propylparaben, isobutylparaben, butylparaben, benzylparaben and isopropylparaben.
  • PEG: these are Polyethylenglycols and are a class of synthetic laboratory compounds, with a process of polymerization of ethylene oxide. Their name is PEG followed by the number of the moles of ethylene oxide, e.g. PEG-40;
  • MINERAL OILS AND THEIR DERIVATIVES: petrolatum and paraffina liquidum. They are obtained from the distillation of petroleum and fossil carbon.
  • BHA/BHT: Buthylhydroxyanisol (BHA) and buthylhydroxytoluol (BHT) are synthetic preservatives and can cause irritation to the eyes, skin and mucus. They are shown with the abbreviations indicated.
  • SLS Sodium Laureth Sulfate and SLE Sodium Lauryl Sulfate: these are surfactants, i.e. substances which dissolve dirt and make it slide away with water.

Seticrei: what we choose to include

SETICREI selects 100% natural, eco-sustainable and cruelty-free raw materials of the highest quality and includes only 100% pure active ingredients.

What does this mean?

  • NATURAL: means not including any ingredient of chemical origin that can enter into conflict with the respect of our skin, generating allergies, skin reactions etc.
  • PURE: this means including an active ingredients that is 100% pure, it means that it does not undergo any modification in the laboratory. This means real results, precisely because the real benefits of a pure ingredient are used. It means keeping the sensory properties of every single natural ingredient intact. The purity of a single active ingredient contained by a cream is to be distinguished from the percentage of it contained in the same cream.
  • SKIN-COMPATIBLE: means that the natural ingredient is pure and also compatible and tolerated by the epidermis, as it contains similar substances that can be naturally assimilated. Our recipe for each of our products is made up of ingredients that are absolutely 100% natural, with 100% active ingredients and 100% skin compatible.
  • ECO-SUSTAINABILE AND CRUELTY-FREE: we prefer to use glass containers or recycled plastic. Our raw materials do not derive from any type of animal exploitation.

Very subtle pun which make a great difference!

This is where the idea that if a product is natural, 100% pure and skin-compatible, a large quantity in daily application is not necessary comes from, because a small amount or drop of a product contains the maximum of the essence which our skins really need.

It is on this basis that Seticrei has decided to express the best beauty ritual for its clients, making the application faster and obtaining the benefits in the results.

A cream cannot be really effective if it contains a 100% pure ingredient and other ingredients that are not pure. Nor can it be effective if it only contains a single natural but 1% pure ingredient.

A cream can be really effective if it contains totally NATURAL, PURE AND SKIN-COMPATIBLE ingredients. THIS IS OUR IDEA!

Only the union of these three factors in the composition of the INCI ensures that the cream can be really effective to care for your skin and yourself, even though of exclusively natural origin.

# (SOLUZIONE) SNAIL SECRETION FILTRATE

Pure secretion of HELIX ASPERSA MULLER, the snail secretion trail that the small gastropod leaves behind and with which it rebuilds its own snail; among the best-known and the most effective natural substances for skincare and epidermis regeneration, its employment alone ensures the supply of an extraordinary cocktail composed of priceless molecules: mucopolysaccharides, allantoin, glycolic acid, collagen, elastin e multivitamin complex A/C/E; thanks to the mucopolysaccharides, it permits to maintain proper skin hydration for longer, to support the tissues favouring the maintenance of extracellular epidermic turgor, it facilitates a transdermal delivery that is deeper compared to the other components and acts as a protective barrier against external aggressions. Thanks to allantoin, characterized by particularly soothing and cicatrizing properties, it counteracts the action of free radicals, it stimulates cell renewal regeneration, it increases the speed healing of small skin wounds and it becomes indispensable to slow down the ageing process. Thanks to glycolic acid and its peeling effect, it provides the removal of surface dead cells allowing better skin oxygenation and a more effective penetration of functional compounds. Moreover, glycolic acid is able to stimulate fibroblasts to produce endogenous elastin and collagen, making a crucial contribution to restore the physiological skin elasticity, and it presents itself as having the quintessential astringent, purifying and smoothing action stimulating the skin to regain its radiance and turgor counteracting wrinkles, spots, acne signs and small scars. Finally, it helps the tissue turnover thanks to peptides, it strengthens its own purifying and regenerating value and plays a primary protection role against the spread of external microorganisms that can alter and damage the health and wellness of the epidermis.

Germinated, according to the story by Lao-Tse, by the eyelids of Durma, the third son of an important Indian king, it was apparently Duchess Anne of Bedford who started the custom in England of drinking tea at five in the afternoon, a drink imported to Europe from China in the 17th century by the Dutch and which then spread rapidly, despite the mistrusting welcome from the medical world. In cosmetics, a significant percentage of tannins (8-26%) gives tea astringent properties while its content in caffeine and theine make it an important lipolytic agent as well as a stimulant and skin energizer; thanks to its content of polyphenolic derivatives, alkaloids, methylxanthin, theobromine and theophylline in small quantities, adenine and xanthan in traces, Vitamin C, fluoride, proteins, dextrins, essential oil, lipids, mineral salts and flavonoids. It contributes highly effectively to decomposing the excesses of fat in the adipose cells (allowing their elimination through the normal metabolic processes), limiting overloads of fat in the healthy cells and stimulating the action of the fibroblasts, thus fostering the recovery of elasticity and consistency for the dermal and skin tissues.

# CAPRYLIC/CAPRIC TRIGLYCERIDES HIMANTHALIA ELONGATA EXTRACT

In science it is known as HEV (High Energy Visible) a wavelength of light coming from both natural and artificial light typical of screens (smartphone, tablet, pc, televisions and led light). When emitted by the Sun, the blue light has positive effects on the mood, on the memory. Instead, when it comes from screens of electronic devices, it is harmful. First of all, it disturbs the natural heart rhythm, it reduces melatonin and affects the quality of sleep. Moreover, it causes the skin to initiate an important oxidative stress with sagging, spots, greyish colour and smartphone wrinkles. Furthermore, the exposure to the blue light during the night affects the natural rhythm of skin cells that, due to such exposure, keep on working as if it were daytime, compromising their natural night repair process. On average a person spends 6 hours a day in front of the different screens he/she owns and during the tough period of seclusion we have been going through linked to the pandemic, these findings have dramatically increased. A survey taken by 2000 citizens found that the average 65-year-old Italian spends 47 years in front of a screen. Moreover, according to some American dermatologists, spending four 8-hour-working days in front of a computer exposes us to the same amount of energy we get from a 20-minute-exposure to midday sun. Extremely alarming findings that give rise to the awareness of the absolute necessity to defend ourselves from this still little-known pollution form, “BLUE LIGHT POLLUTION” .... a danger as subtle as imperceptible as we do not notice it. Seticrei, after more than a year of studies, has managed to find a natural active principle able to fight this pollution. It is an extract of deionized brown seaweed (consequently, it can be used even by those suffering from thyroid problems) known as “sea spaghetti” because of its shape, it is very rich in alginic acid, potassium, vitamin C, fecosterol and phyto carotenoids. These completely natural active ingredients protect the seaweed from UV rays, blue light and infrared of type A that penetrate a depth of some metres in the ocean.
